Luxurious Margaret River Accommodation
(Western Australia's South West Jewel)

By James Lush

Any visit to Western Australia would be incomplete without a trip down to the beautiful South West of the state. Here, you'll find spectacular coastlines, lush green forests, long winding roads, fabulous boutique wineries and Margaret River - the Jewel of the South West.

Blessed with a perfect Mediterranean oceanside climate, this soulful corner of Australia is perfect for those looking to kick back and unwind away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

If your accommodation taste is upmarket, I recommend you investigate the following 3 delightful stays:

1. Cape Lodge

Located at the heart of the Margaret River Wine Region, Cape Lodge is a luxurious country guest house surrounded by splendid gardens and overlooking a freshwater lake.

There are 26 rooms in all, including 17 suites and the original homestead, which now contains the reception area, guest lounge and conservatory. Many rooms encircle the lake and the new Cape Lodge restaurant while others are tucked away in the woodlands.

The Main Lodge Garden Wing suites boast of their own courtyard and tranquil outdoor setting. The in-house restaurant serves a sumptuous buffet until 10 a.m. (either to your room or at the sun-lit conservatory) and a la carte in the evening, in tandem with the finest wines of Margaret River.

Cape Lodge offers a mini-bar, parking, television, VCR, CD player, DVD player, in-house movies, laundry, safe deposit, hairdryer, disabled access, business facilities, internet access, dry-cleaning services, tea and coffee facilities, library, spa, massage treatments and air conditioning. There are nearby facilities for swimming and surfing, diving and snorkeling, fishing charters, horse riding, bush walking, boat cruises, cave tours, cheese and chocolate tours, wine and gourmet tours.

2. Empire Retreat

Nestled on 265 acres of tranquil land and natural bush surroundings, the Empire Retreat in the Margaret River wine region offers soothing seclusion and complete luxury as well as easy access to a host of spectacular beaches.

It was build around a 25 year old farmhouse and provides an ideal romantic hideaway or a soothing shelter from the pressure and frenzy of urban life. There are 10 rooms in all, including four suites that are separate from the house but connected by a boardwalk and water garden.

Picnic hampers allow guests to have a quiet lunch at the dam or around the lush farmlands and natural bush. The larger rooms have their own spa bath, open fireplace, sink, sitting area and microwave. Empire Retreat offers a complimentary gourmet breakfast, mini-kitchen, refrigerator, tea and coffee facilities, spa, sauna, Jacuzzi, therapeutic massage, beauty treatments, billiard room, barbecue, library, bicycle hire, communal kitchen
