- Palm Cove in Far North Queensland

Beach near Palm Cove

Queensland is a huge State. A car drive from the Gold Coast to Tropical North Queensland & beyond to Cape York could take months to complete.

It is not the distance that slows people down as they explore the East Coast... it is the natural and man made delights that are found on the way.

Nature created Palm Cove's long curving beach facing the Coral Sea and the South East Trade Winds that cool the golden sand beach with continuous lines of towering shady palm trees.

People have devised the buildings that allow you to experience the delightful tropical days and nights.

Palm Cove offers the full range of accommodation.

AustraliAccommodation recommends Palm Cove to you as it is truly one of the places that slow you down.

You could stay somewhere else (Cairns ?) - but that would be a poor choice, as you would miss the casual ambience of twilight dining and beach walks.

- there are luxury accommodation options . .

- and more mundane ones . .

One option is the famous caravan park owned by the Cairns City Council, - you'll find it on the Esplanade facing the jetty and Double Island. It is famous because it is the low key, low price, superb adventure experience option for travellers.

Palm Cove is actually a residential suburb of Cairns. It about 20 minutes North of Cairns City & the International Airport which is at the Northern end of the Cairns City area.

It is a narrow pocket of flat land bordered by the Coral Sea and the very high rain forest covered ridge of the Great Dividing Range that continues on to Daintree & beyond.

The village of Palm Cove - having outgrown its suburban origins - is now a very sophisticated travel destination mainly controlled by large Melbourne & Sydney based businesses.

The wealth of the resort and facility owners has enabled them to spend huge amounts of money in a responsible and successful way.

There are some resorts that occupy beach front sites and other larger ones that include full size superior championship golf courses and convention facilities.

Palm Cove has stylish boutique hotels, resorts, villas & spas that all compliment the range of travel facilities. Even the small local shopping village (looking like an upmarket pirate port) is famous.

Some travellers want to explore the towns and attractions that are within a comfortable half day drive to the South or North.

To the South is Cairns. It is a very busy tourist town but also the home to local Australians. The travellers and locals mix well and can be seen relaxing at the foreshore lagoon, wharf or getting essentials at shopping centres.

You could well spend a whole day in Cairns just looking at the people and the city centre.

- nearby: the Great Barrier reef

Another day could be set aside for a full day cruise to the Great Barrier Reef. There are outer & inner reef options.

North of Palm Cove are the inlets and high rocky cliffs beside the famous ( yes another famous attraction ) winding coast road that leads to Daintree & the stunning Port Douglas.

Set aside a full day for Port Douglas if you want to see everything and enjoy the casual tropical lifestyle.

Further on you come to the Daintree... famous as a rain forest but its true claims are based on places like Cape Tribulation, Daintree Village, the ferry crossing and some more - very special - places to stay.

A full day at the Daintree is essential if you have the time as it will be hot and there are cool creeks..

So here is the summary:

Palm Cove is a great place to spend a holiday or vacation. You can select from short of long stay packages in resorts, spas or the caravan park.

While you are there you can explore to the South & North on full day travel options either as self drive or on organised tours. The Great Barrier Reef is just off the coast and there are many of ways to get there or see it.

Palm Cove is so much more than a group of hotels or a beach side suburb. It is a special place. People often come back once they have experienced the pleasures on offer.
